		<description>UNITED

Proposed adaptive reuse of an existing pedestrian bridge as a bar and viewing platform.

Can you imagine what it would be like to spend an evening suspended nearly 200 feet in the air between two of Detroit’s most significant skyscrapers?

Our client did. So did we. And maybe others will too one day.

<description>Revamped print and online identity for the architecture program at the University of Michigan

Our approach was straightforward: focus on the life of the place through the people and their work as strong visual backdrops for a typographic overlay and vital information.

<description>A small conference room tucked away in the far corner of a vast food distribution warehouse

A straightforward site with a few annoying constraints: three horizontal glass block windows that offered no view and a steel column in the middle of the wall (but not inside it). It also presented a few opportunities: a tall ceiling and a discerning client. Our desire was to imbue the space with a quality of light that was soft, generous, and unlike any other space in the building. Kinks in both plan and section align at the column, now absorbed into our new wall. A continuous window frame registers the original geometry of the room and reveals the column once again behind lapped, translucent glass.

<description>Design/build conversion of a former loading dock in
a Detroit warehouse into reception and conference spaces

We asked ourselves: as authors, how might our work engage in a conversation
with the worn surfaces and discarded machinery from half a century of activity?
Why erase what took place here when we can simply add another layer?

<description>Design and custom fabrication of a downtown salon, along with a complete visual identity including signage, website, ads and collateral

6 salon magnifies the operational activities of image maintenance in order to elevate the actions of the stylist and confirm the client’s participation in the process. With a large, gallery-like lining housing a variety of tailored workstations, the project has transformed its immediate urban surroundings. And the owners? They just wanted good light.

<description>Collapsing production and presentation with Diller + Scofidio’s Eyebeam Museum of New Media

What happens when we engage the production of a book by designing press-sheets rather than traditional pages? How can the process of reading operate analogously to the process of occupying space? Is it possible for participation to constitute authorship?

		<description>Design/build studio conversion

The introduction of a series of new elements and surfaces within an electronic music studio is designed to support, display and equip the work recorded there. The studio accommodates DJs from outside the country, who not only produce music in this space, but also live in the studio for short periods of time. A super-frame is tiled
with various materials in order to regulate sound absorption and light transmission.

<description>Design of a 2700 sq. ft. nail salon and storefront in an outdoor mall.

A rich material palette and unique millwork elements were used to create a “lounge” atmosphere—in contrast to the typically sterile nail salon environments.

Custom millwork, made possible by CNC cutting, both shaped the space by pushing and pulling against the existing “box” and responded to the specific equipment needs of technicians.
